Onboard the Silver Explorer Cruise Ship
Having never been aboard a cruise before myself, I was excited to see what one of the most luxury cruise companies around, Silversea, had to offer. Embarking on their Silver Explorer vessel, due to embark to Iceland and beyond later in the day, we got a sneak preview before the guests arrived. Due to their intimate size, Silversea cruises take you to some of the most remote regions on the planet. For curious travellers looking to find what lies behind the mountain ride, and really get involved in the habitat of the region. Everything from the lush rainforests, to the polar extremes at the edge of the world.
Silversea’s fleet travels to all seven continents. With the chance to get up close and personal with some of the most endangered and rare species in the world, the expedition series is a cruise like no other. From Iceland to the Galapagos Islands, they offer the chance to experience stunning scenery to take your breath away. Learning about different cultures and new experiences along the way, is all part of the package when embarking on any expedition cruise ship.
Where Does It Go?
Travelling to over 900 destinations in all seven continues, Silversea offer more locations than any other cruise liner. Due to the small nature of their ships, they are also able to access more ports than bigger cruise liners, giving more options to choose from. Silversea pride themselves on their one to one service, with all Expedition ships holding under 200 guests for a more intimate experience. Giving everyone the opportunity to step out and become immediately immersed in the experience.
With state of the art zodiac bots giving guests the chance to be up close and personal in the surrounding habitat, there’s always an opportunity to witness something special. Being such small ships also means that if there’s something on the horizon worth seeing, they’re happy to make the trip, not always necessarily following a set route. From canoeing in the Galapagos islands or relaxing with the locals in New Zealand, the expedition series offers the chance to take a once in a lifetime photograph, with wildlife up close both on water and land.
All of Silversea ships are run by a team of experts all from relevant fields. Including biologists, botanists, ornithologists and history experts. Not only will your trip be relaxing, but also educational. Although the Silver Explorer doesn’t offer much in the way of entertainment on board, it does have several communal areas to relax and get to know others on board, as well as the opportunity to join in lectures from expedition experts after a day of exploring on land. Guests can also join the lectures live from their suits to watch from the comfort of their own space. Or if you’d rather, borrow a book to read from the observation lounge library to research ahead for your next destination.
Naturally being in the artic for eight months of the year, there isn’t a pool on board the Explorer, however there is two jacuzzis by the grill area should you be brave enough to take the plunge!
Each guest can benefit from their very own personalised service with almost one on one attention. Everything from the butler service, and the mini bar stocked to your liking. Everything is included on board, including food, drink and gratuities. You’ll be entitled to an hour of free WiFi per day in your suite, and complimentary WiFi for those in more luxury suites on board. Each guest is provided with a Haglofs parka for their expedition, as well as a Silversea metal water bottle, expedition backpack and complimentary Laurent Perrier champagne awaiting you in every suite on arrival. You’ll be taken on guided educational tours and expeditions on the zodiac boats, both on land and shoreside. Not to mention further educational lectures, just in case you couldn’t get enough already. Oh and of course, you’ll have your very own ocean view from your suite, no matter where you are.
