Christmas Cocktails at the Dome
Since Luke first moved to Edinburgh five years ago, and myself three years later – we have always talked about going to the Dome. One of the most lavish places in the city centre, it’s always the most beautiful on George Street at Christmas time. With the outside pillars adorned in glittering lights and holly with huge wreaths hanging off every window. It’s the kind of place that never goes un-noticed, and always has admiring eyes gazing upon it.
Inside the decorations of the Dome continue, with a beautiful giant Christmas tree in the centre of the cocktail bar area, tinted by the changing hues of the lights surrounding it. Then of course, you look up to the gorgeous curved ceiling itself, giving the Dome it’s very name. Under the glitz and glamour of the hanging chandeliers and beautifully polished floors and hanging baubles, we set about ordering our drinks.
How Expensive Was it?
A part of me expected things to be more expensive than usual. But in reality it was actually on par with the rest of city pricing for cocktails, and indeed most places. I ordered my favourite, a bramble – and for Luke, a white Russian. The drinks were between £7-£9 each, which again is what I would expect to pay. Using all the good stuff, it was clear that the price paid was fair for the quality of ingredients used. We all know stocking up your bar cart isn’t cheap!
Needless to say, the Dome was heaving inside so we only stayed for one drink. It was lovely to finally go and appreciate a little bit of Christmas magic; as the year draws in to an end. Warmed by some cocktails, and wrapped up against the cold, we stepped back out into the night and headed home for a cosy evening together before I headed away on my travels to Arizona.
As we draw closer to 2017, I’m thankful for the opportunities and overcome obstacles of 2016; looking forward to what the new year might bring. Have you thought of any goals and resolutions to make to yourself for 2017?
Happy New Year when the time comes, here’s to 2017!
