Styling skirts in cold weather

Just because it’s cold weather, doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t be able to wear your favourite dresses and skirts still. My wardrobe mainly consists of a combination of dresses and skirts. They’re so easy and versatile to wear and match up with things, I’ve always favoured them more than the likes of jeans. Although it’s now well and truly getting into winter now with freezing weather outside, I didn’t want to let it stop me from wearing my favourite wardrobe pieces. With some careful layering, chunky knits and boots, it makes for more practical dressing.

Why layering is key

Choosing to wear skirts that have heavier and thicker material will obviously keep you warmer than thinner summer skirts. One of my favourite pieces to layer up is skater skirts and full circle skirts. Something that can easily be made warmer with some cozy tights, a cardigan or jumper and some warm boots. I’m styling a full circle midi skirt with knee high heeled boots. Paired with an off the shoulder bodysuit, perfect for some weekend drinks or an office Christmas party.

How to style it

Mix up the look with something more cool-casual with a leather jacket and high waisted skater skirt and crop jumper and coloured flats. Try a more velvet style skirt for something more on trend for winter party season with heeled ankle boots. Also try adding a sparkly statement necklace over a cozy knit jumper layered over a dress or skirt with boots for a weekend catch up with friends.

I shared a post previously on how to re-style your favourite summer pieces for winter with key layering, which you can read – here.
