Styling the Breton Stripe
I have an obsession with stripes. There, I said it. I honestly have to try so hard to resist buying yet another Breton striped tee
that looks exactly the same as all my others whenever I see one. There’s something about stripes that are just so easy and versatile to wear. There’s a reason why the Breton stripe has been in fashion for as long as it has. Something that’s been around since the 1860s from France, the stripe became both a stereotype and a serious fashion trend over the years.
The media will try to tell you that stripes make you look fatter. The fact of the matter is, wear whatever you want, especially if you like stripes. Just because a Daily Mail article ten years ago told you so doesn’t mean it’s true. Stripes are a great bold statement no matter how you wear them, whether that be casual for weekend errands or more dressed up for the office.
How I’m Wearing It
For a surprisingly sunny day here in Edinburgh, I wanted to make the most of the nice weather. This is something I’d like to think is a mix of casual and a bit more office appropriate. Working at a design studio we don’t really have a dress code, but I still like any excuse to dress things up a bit! I’ve paired my Breton striped tee here from Primark, with H&M floaty pleated skirt and pointed flats from New Look. Accessories with my statement necklace is from George at ASDA. A super comfortable outfit for keeping cool in the sunshine and still being office appropriate.
I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing how I’d style the Breton stripe for a casual office look. What’s your favourite way to wear a striped tee?
