Lovecrumbs

Lovecrumbs is one of the best things about living in Edinburgh’s West End. It’s really close to Grassmarket and the cafe itself has a lovely relaxed vibe about it, often filled with people sitting in the window seat on cosy cushions, freelancers and students working away in the corner, or friends and family coming in for a catch up. Lovecrumbs is always busy, so you might be waiting a little while unless you happen to catch it at a good moment, but believe me, it’s worth it. They have all their cakes inside an old vintage inspired wardrobe and chest (because why not?) and each day a new fresh selection is put out, and often it’s different each time. As if the window display wasn’t enough to tempt you inside! Not to mention all of their cakes usually have all kinds of weird and wonderful flavours in, my personal favourite was the white chocolate and beetroot cake. Enjoy yourself an organic cup of loose tea from their wide selection with your cake, and sit and watch the world go by.

Mimi’s Bakehouse

Mimi’s is something everyone in Edinburgh knows about, it’s also something that will most definitely come up on ‘things to do in Edinburgh’ when you have a search if you’re planning on visiting. It’s got a quirky atmosphere and really fun decor, be sure to book in for an afternoon tea treat, or enjoy one of their many cakes and traybake for a naughty little morning snack. Mimi’s has also recently expanded from being in their main spot down on the Shore where you can watch life pass you by, to another store in Corstorphine just past Edinburgh zoo.

Milk

I might be bias because Milk is literally on my doorstep, but I love this place. Not just the cakes, but their food too. Everything is organically sourced from local providers and their menu is super inventive and will certainly leave you inspired to work up some of their offerings yourself. They also offer a fresh daily selection of cakes on their counter, most of which will change on a daily basis, which is why you should totally go more than once, their raspberry and white chocolate cake is hands down the best thing I’ve ever had. Enjoy a pot of tea with it on their super cute retro inspired dining wear and soak up the atmosphere.

Cuckoo’s Bakery

Based in Bruntsfield down towards the Meadows, surrounded by equally lovely little boutique shops – Cuckoo’s has recently also opened up another shop on Dundas Street for double the cake! They’ve just won Scottish baker of the year and totally deserve it, their cupcakes are one of a kind and each has a different unique design, not to mention – can you ever have too much frosting? No, the answer is no. Wait for the secret surprise in the middle.

Mademoiselle Macaron

Mademoiselle Macaron is based just down the side of Usher Hall and on the way to the Grassmarket, tucked away in a hidden side street it’s a gem worth taking a visit to find. Opened in 2014 it’s founder Rachel brought her passion with her from training in Paris back to the capital and has been whipping up sweet and savoury macaron treats ever since. Feel French for the afternoon and pick yourself up some macaron’s in the prettiest boxes to munch away on.

I hope you enjoyed my list of cake spots in Edinburgh, it’s definitely something to satisfy any sweet tooth! Do you have any favourite cake spots in Edinburgh or your city?
