A few weekends back I headed off to meet Lynn and Kate at the train station and head off to Glasgow for the day, for we were the only Edinburgh bloggers heading to the Curry’s in the Kitchen event as part of a blogger bake off! Needless to say, we arrived super early, but we came, we baked, we conquered. Oh yes.
As you know if you’ve been reading my blog for a while now, or follow me on twitter
, you’ll know that I absolutely love baking and have been an avid baker for years. Any excuse to bake something and I’m there, so the blogger bake off was just my ticket.
We began by having instructions from our head chef for the day who showed us how to prepare scones, a Victoria Sponge cake, vanilla cupcakes, and some chocolate muffins. It really was a day full of food and laughs. Once our scones were fresh out of the oven, on came the jam and cream (of course!) and we sat down for a little morning tea and scones break with the other bloggers.
But no time for resting..back into the kitchen! Next up was the Victoria sponge cake and cupcakes since they used the same mix. Everything worked out really well and was so delicious, it’s definitely an experience I really enjoyed and would love to go back again for another cooking lesson in something I’ve never tried before.
And what did I learn? Never to wear tight clothes when you know you’re going to be baking and eating cake all day, suede pumps are flour’s biggest attraction, and never under estimate the power of a whisk!
At the end of the day we all attempted to bundle ourselves back onto the various buses and trains and our massive goody bags (!) which even included a new Kenwood mixer. Come to mama, best present ever. The cakes did survive the journey back surprisingly enough, though a few may or may have not been eaten along the way to er..avoid casualties. It was a really fabulous day and I’m so glad I went, a big thank you to Currys and for all the other bloggers and the team at The Cookery School in Glasgow who made it so enjoyable.
